Chairman’s Update

11 Mar 2021

Cricket is almost back.

Firstly, I would like to thank all our members for their patience and support throughout the past 12 months. Although we saw some cricket last season it is fair to say it was a season unlike no other past and hopefully in the future.

We head into the 2021 season full of optimism and excitement, albeit without our normal winter training.
We have reverted back to 4 seniors teams following dropping to 3 last season to help with the COVID restrictions. As with previous seasons our membership is healthy, and this brings good competition when it comes to team selection.

During the winter we have had electric installed in the net area which has allowed us to purchase a new bowling machine. We have also purchased several new train aids at the request of our Head Coach, Neil.

Our Kit Secretary has been busy again during the recent lockdown and he has purchased a number of Maroon Club Baggies. Once Josh has taken delivery, we will share the details of how you can purchase them via the website and all our social media pages.  Josh also has a few RRG senior kits for purchase and again we will share the details of how you can purchase them very soon.

Senior training nights will be on Tuesday and Thursday this year which I am sure the observants ones amongst you have notice this is a change from Monday and Thursday. The section from the roots up is in a particularly good position and grows form year to year. With this comes problems (good problems to have) with ground availability so please respect the guidelines which I will be releasing shortly on net usage during the week.

Although we are still waiting for confirmation from the ECB and the Cheshire Leagues of how the season will look, I am confident we will be seeing lots of cricket at Mersey this summer and I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
