Wilmslow CC 170-7 (45)
HMCC 171-3 (39)
HMCC win by 7 wickets.
Inconsistent forecasts cleared up on Saturday morning as a shaken-up Mersey 1s made the short trip down the A34 to visit Wilmslow, the final fixture of the first half of the season. With HMCC winning the toss on a green pitch, the away team decided to bowl.
Ishy and Tom L opened up but with the pitch slow, both struggled to make a big impact with the new ball. Waqs and Moose replaced them, with the latter tying down the middle overs. Moose finished with an exceptionally economical 11-4-17-0 and Waqs picking up the important wickets of Narayanan and Murugan. A returning Craigo bowled superbly at the death with Tom. Cutters and controlled lengths combining with some good catching by Josh and Jordy to restrict the home side to 170-7.
After a short tea, Louis and Josh started superbly with elegant stroke play and aggressive running between the wickets. Louis’ 51 off 73 the ninth different player to score a fifty on the 1s this year, supported Josh in a 96-run stand. Josh fell for 75, having brought up his second fifty of the season with a sumptuous six over the bowler’s head. John B and Craigo finishing off the chase as HMCC brought up their victory three wickets down and with 6 overs spare.
Mersey make the long trip to Wirral next week. Thank you to our travelling support, Ollie for the scoring and our team sponsor Neurological Physiotherapy.
