Heaton Mersey Magic (U10s) High Peak League Match 6
I am running out of superlatives. This season was going to be a learning curve, but some team learn faster than others......
Our latest away match was a trip to Stockport, somewhere in the wild lands around Bramall and Davenport. The boys were looking sharp in the (shaded) warm up. Captain Dan called right and chose to bowl. Our favoured option.
Led superbly, the team matched the Macc performance from Monday, not putting a foot wrong:
- Zach deserved the match ball for keeping for 16 overs. Amazing effort
- Tight bowling from all
- Ben's ace run out with a measured underarm throw
- Hugo's 3 for 5 says it all
- once again we just didn't bowl any no balls and wides, backed up superbly (with hands!), and our throwing and ground fielding set a new standard
After some well deserved drinks at the interval we set about chasing down a target of 246, having kept Georgians to 61 for 4 and a net of 245.
Hugo and Alex to open After a calmish first over, all he'll broke lose with the batsman dispatching the ball to all parts. Our one lost wicket was followed by Hugo promising to hit the next for 4. He did that. And the next. And the one after that. By the time they walked off we were 239 for 1. Just a few to win...
Enter George and the Dragon (Seth). Again a calm first over, but then George took out his frustration of missing out on his usual wickets with some pyrotechnics. Ably supported by Seth the job was well done at halfway.
Would our last pairs take it easy. Nope. Toby and Ben added another 20 before Dan and Zach batted superbly as if the match was on the line. The strokeplay and running was fantastic to watch from square leg.
All the many boundaries left us on 319 for 3, a net of 307, and a resounding 62 run win.
The improvement being shown is immense. The boys have taken onboard the little things that help turn small defeats into big wins.
Thank you to @Paul Benham and @Simon Webb for scoring and @~Louis Mundin for coaching. What really makes the difference is *all the parents* helping get the next batters ready and supporting the boys to the hilt. I don't see that from the other teams. Thank you all!
