Looking to extend their lead at the top of the table, the 1st XI made the trek out to Bunbury. With the skipper losing the toss, we were sent out to bat on the picturesque Bunbury Cricket Ground.
In-form all rounder Luke Marshall was sent out to open the batting alongside Alishan Khan and were hoping to make a solid start. Unfortunately, Khan(4) was dismissed early to a good delivery, however this brought the ever reliable and leading run scorer John Barnett to the crease.
Marshall and Barnett put together an entertaining 70 run partnership, pushing quick singles and hitting glorious boundaries, before Marshall (40) was dismissed. Gandy made his way to the crease and together with Barnett put on a 49 run stand before Gandy (20) was caught behind, leaving the score at 3/128. Barnett was eventually out after a well crafted 62. With dismissals to Shirley(15) and Ainscough(4), this brought power hitting machine Jack Humpage to the crease. Humpage finished the innings superbly with 35 off 26 balls, with 5x 4s and 1x 6.
At the end of the 45 overs, the 1st XI posted a well compiled 7/201.
With the absence of reliable opening bowler Hassan Rashid, Ismael Khan took the new ball and made an early impact.
Ishy bowled with great pace and accuracy and was well rewarded at the end of his 6 overs, finishing with figures of 2/19.
At the end of Khan’s spell, Gurdit Singh was given the ball for his first game in 2022 for the 1st XI. In a fantastic spell of bowling, Gurdit showed great control with a consistent line and length, rarely giving the batsman a chance to score runs. He was also well rewarded with 2/19 off his 9 overs.
Left-arm veteran Ian Hughes was once again a great contributor with the ball, taking three crucial wickets and breaking partnerships. Hughes finished with figures of 3/35 off his 11 overs bowled.
Waqar Rashid (2/22) and Luke Marshall (1/30) finished off the game with their exceptional skills with the ball, leaving Bunbury all out for 126.
Once again the 1st XI displayed a great team effort to get the 15 points against Bunbury CC, extending their lead at the top of the table to 19 points.
We hope to see you at our next home game against Bredbury St Marks CC as we look to continue our great start to the season!
