Magic Mersey start their season in Styal

On Thursday evening Heaton Mersey's U10S squad kicked off their 2026 season in the picturesque surroundings of Styal. After a winter contained in the nets, Captain Dan, sporting a classic HM cricket sleeveless jumper, and his team were ready to be unleashed....

Batting first, Dan and opening partner Hussein quickly settled nerves with a faultless opening partnership. Toby and Ben, and then Zack and George, ramped up the scoring rate, including some lusty boundaries. This provided the perfect platform for Hugo and Isaac to pile on some late runs. A classic exhibition in how to build a big total. With only one wicket lost in 16 overs, Heaton Mersey had accumulated a daunting score of 295.

Under beautiful blue skies, our crack bowling unit got to work. Styal never looked like getting close with wickets falling to a variety of Magic's pace bowling "pack". Every bowler found an accurate line and length and the stumps were hit at regular intervals, with one ball by George knocking all 3 over. A couple of run outs by wicketkeeper Ben rounded off a fabulous night in the field.

With Styal getting to 211, Heaton Mersey Magic were comprehensive winners. What really shone was their togetherness, teamwork, and on field communication, coming together to celebrate their (many) successes. This is a team to watch out for this season!
