Mersey find a way to get it done at Lindow

Heaton Mersey Magic (U10s) High Peak League Summer Cup Match 2

If ever there was a game fitting of a Jon match report this was it. Apologies, I am far less eloquent, so I will have to keep it short and sweet.

The boys did a fantastic job today. The game ebbed and flowed with Callum, Charlie & Isaac playing fluently, with runs flowing. But the boundaries were interspersed with tight Lindow bowling and clusters of wickets. Which left us on a net score of 271. Maybe just under par for a pitch with short boundaries but still, a tricky wicket. 

The boys needed to bowl good lines and lengths and stay focussed in the field. Which is exactly what they did. 

• Hugo bowled a tight two over spell, followed by short and aggressive burst from Alex, who as ever, fielded bravely in the deep. Brilliantly followed up by Sam, with two great overs of seem and his concentration in the field with backing up saved the team at least 10 vital runs. 
• Zack had his hat firmly in the ring for moment of the match for his controlled batting, solid wicket keeping, excellent catch at long off and bowling spell, 12 balls attacking the stumps left him with 2 wickets. 
• Ellis batted well, bowled a tight first over. And after we were looking down the barrel of defeat, stepped up with a match-changing penultimate over, taking a critical wicket and took the prize for Moment of the Match. 
• Charlie could been forgiven for giving himself the prize, he batted really well (including a reverse-scoop one bounce four), bowled and kept exceptionally and showed real maturity as captain, with field positioning and rushing through the overs with threat of the impending rain. 
• Isaac seized his moment in the last over. Lindow requiring 5 to win, 4 to tie. 4 dot balls from the first 4 balls of the over was incredible. The boys kept their nerve and got over the line, winning by 1 run! 

Well done boys, the summer cup is very much alive and they deserve to go all the way.
