Mersey Gain Second Win from Dominant Display

4 May 2022

Northwich CC 79 All out off 31.3 overs

Heaton Mersey CC 80-3 off 20 overs.

Heaton Mersey win by 7 wickets.

A combination of severe traffic and poor directions elongated what was meant to be a short trip to Northwich for HMCC’s first away trip of the 2022 season. Having arrived just in time for the toss, Tom Laverty called heads and elected to bowl on a muggy April day.

Hass and Luke started sumptuously with the new ball, displaying immense skill and control in good bowling conditions. Having clean bowled the opponent’s skipper, Luke then trapped Visvanathan in-front for 20. What then followed was a masterclass of new ball bowling for Hass. Despite fasting, Hass executed a superb spell; shaping the ball away from the right hand and beating the bat consistently. Hass was soon rewarded as the Northwich middle-order collapsed from 32-1 to 53-7. Hass finishing with figures of 11-6-23-4 as Craigo emerged to clean up the tail (4.3-2-8-3).

The Mersey innings didn’t start perfectly will Ainscough falling to Visvanathan without a score on the board. John B (22) and Charlie (35) counter-attacked brilliantly to take the game away from Northwich with Craigo and debutant John Moon finishing the job off for the boys!

The result puts Mersey top of the table and only the 3rd team in the league to remain unbeaten.
