Mersey stretch clear of chasing pack

11 Aug 2022

Mersey travelled to 3rd placed Stockport Trinity at the weekend knowing victory would take them 3 wins away from promotion.

On a muggy day, Mersey elected to bat first. They realised soon that the pitch was not as batting friendly as first looked, losing their top 3 in the first 16 overs. Dom Gandy came in at 5 for his once a month outing and changed the outlook of the game. He made batting looked incredibly easy and elevated Mersey to 162 from their 45 overs, finishing on 84 not out.

Mersey took to the field knowing they had a great score to defend considering the pitch and set about their business early. Hassan Rashid, on his return from injury bowled a sensational opening spell taking 5 wickets. The rest of the attack kept it tight and Craig Shirley (2) and Waqar Rashid (3) finished the job, bowling Trinity out for 123. Mersey take 12 points to Trinity's 3.

Onto to next week, home to Langley!
