This year we are offering extra training for our players who have shown exceptional skill at cricket during the season. These Academy training sessions will be run by our newly signed coach, Atiq uz Zuman.
The exact numbers are still to be decided but we thought it was worth communicating how the Academy will work:
Girls Academy
We will hopefully be training with girls from Priestnall School from 3.30pm-4.30pm on a Wednesday. This gives us an ideal opportunity for the girls Academy team to train afterwards and therefore the girls Academy training will run from 4.30pm – 5.30pm on a Wednesday.
This will be open to all girls who are in Year 7 and above, are hard ball ready and will be training with the hardball team on a Monday (with Tony). You don’t need to go to Priestnall to be invited.
There are no other requirements for the Girls Academy. This will provide our girls extra training at NO extra cost to them. We are really invested in women's and girls' cricket at the club and are pleased to be able to offer this additional training opportunity.
U19 Academy
In the same way as the Girls Academy, all of our registered U19 players will form part of an Academy and will benefit from Atiq assisting them in their training as well as some of our senior players.
This Academy training will simply be part of their standard training on a Tuesday at 7-8pm with their usual coaches. Atiq will be looking to concentrate on small numbers within a net or outfield.
Again, there is no criteria to join this Academy training as this will form part of the regular training sessions for U19's.
U11 Academy
The U11's Academy team will play matches on a Sunday. This will be our best U9s (Y4) (who are hard ball ready), best U10s (Y5) and best U11s (Y6).
These Academy players will be provided with additional training on a Wednesday evening.
Training will be at 5.30pm -6.15pm in the nets for our older players and 6.15pm-7pm on the outfield for our younger players (who perhaps are working towards hard ball)
The Academy players will be picked through communication with Atiq, the U11 Development Officer (Anna) and the Coaches.
To assess players, we will be holding two "Trial" matches on the 20th and 27th April and all nominated children will be expected to attend for both weeks trials. The Coaches have been asked to nominate players and the U11's Development Officer will contact all those nominated by their Coaches, if your child is not nominated and you wish them to be considered for the Academy team then please email hmcc.juniors@gmail.com.
Coach nomination will be based on previous performance at matches and skills demonstrated at training, we would also expect your child to be on the Cheshire pathway. If you are not on a Cheshire pathway but feel your child could be suitable for the Academy, then please speak to your Coach before giving your details to Anna via the HMCC Juniors email address.
In addition, we can only invite players who are signed up exclusively for Heaton Mersey.
Around 12-20 players will be selected across the 3 age groups for this team and obviously both boys and girls will be invited.
U13 Academy
The U13 Academy will work on the same basis as the u11 Academy and their games will be on a Sunday, in the Cheshire League.
Training is on a Tuesday at 5.30pm – 6.15pm and 6.15pm – 7pm. Again, the sessions will be split primarily by age.

Exceptional U14s players may be given the additional training but will not be required to attend the trial - the U15's Development Officer will contact those children that this applies to.
All Age Groups
The Academies are an area that we expect to develop over the season so there will be the opportunity for children whose skills develop to be invited to Academy training in the future even if they do not attend/pass the original trial.
We are really excited about the new developments at HMCC Juniors and we hope that you are too!
Thanks all
