Heaton Mersey U13s delivered an outstanding all-round performance in the first round of the Vitality T20 national competition, showcasing resilience and skill despite being down to 10 players. Winning the toss, Captain Harry opted to bat on a pitch ideal for batting. Macclesfield had strong moments with the ball, but Heaton Mersey made the most of anything short. Shoutout to Lucasz (32), Ibraheem (31), and Seamus (31), who all retired after reaching 30, helping set an imposing target of 129 for Macclesfield to chase.
The bowling attack was fierce, with Lewis and Seamus opening brilliantly and taking early wickets. Macclesfield struggled to build any momentum, but anything less than a full delivery was swiftly sent to the boundary. As regular wickets fell, the pressure proved too much, and Heaton Mersey U13’s secured a 20-run victory. Seamus led the charge with three, Lewis grabbed two, while Ibraheem and Stanley claimed one each, ensuring a well-deserved win.
The moment of the match? Owen’s remarkable catch—defying all logic as the ball bounced off his wicketkeeping gloves before somehow lodging itself in his pads! Meanwhile, Man of the Match was awarded to birthday boy Ibraheem, who played a composed innings and picked up two wickets—a perfect way to celebrate.
Every player played a crucial role, whether with the bat, ball, or in the field, making this a true team performance and a showcase of Heaton Mersey U13s at their best. With this victory, we advance to round two, edging closer to Lords! A huge thank you to Chris for umpiring and to all the players and parents who braved the Monday evening traffic (and roadworks!) to make the journey to Macclesfield.
