U8s to U11s - half-term review

4 Jun 2023

It’s half-term (4th June at the time of writing) and so it’s time for a review of how the U8s to U11s have done.

U11s: Cheshire league (U11s Zone 3)

Played 3, won 2, lost 1, position 4th out of 7

It’s relatively early days in the Cheshire league as Heaton Mersey have only played three games, losing to Romiley and beating Timperley and Bowdon.  It’s all to play for.

U11s Academy: South Manchester league (U11s Zone 1)

Played 6, won 2, lost 3, abandoned 1, position 4th out of 7

Heaton Mersey’s U11 Academy team are solidly mid-table in this league.  Given Didsbury’s position at the top, with 6 wins out of 6, and Whalley Range not far behind, it looks tough to do better than third in this league.

U10s: Cheshire league (U11s Zone 2)

Played 4, won 2, lost 1, abandoned 1, position 3rd out of 8

Despite the U11s Cheshire league being a tough place to play, the U10s team have acquitted themselves well, winning 2 out of the 3 completed matches (with the fourth being a complete wash-out).

U10s: High Peak league (U11s West Division)

Played 5, won 4, lost 1, position 1st out of 9

The U10s have carried on where they left off last season, despite playing up a year this season, with the last match defeat against Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge being their only loss.  They lead their league but it is fairly close at the top so they will need to get back to winning ways quickly to maintain their position.

U9s: Cheshire league (U9s Zone 1)

Played 4, won 2, lost 2, position 4th out of 6

Other than Didsbury’s unbeaten table toppers, it’s a bit of a topsy-turvy league and it could go either way for the U9s, albeit they currently seem unlikely to replicate the U10s table topping achievement of last season.  Heaton Mersey inflicted 2nd-placed Hyde’s only defeat (and it was relatively comfortable) but were Cheadle Hulme’s only win of the season.

U9s: High Peak league (U9s Stockport Division)

Played 4, won 4, position 1st out of 11

Their performance in the High Peak league, meanwhile, has been impeccable, topping the table unbeaten so far, including beating 3rd and 4th.  The next match against 2nd-placed Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge already looks to be a crucial fixture.

U8s: High Peak league (U9s Stockport Division)

Played 4, won 1, lost 2, opposition conceded 1, position 5th out of 11 [to check after the latest result is posted]

The U8s team are having their first competitive matches and holding their own, with 1 win over older opposition so far.  There are plenty of matches to come so lots of further opportunities to improve the team’s match experience.

Pic: The U9s off to a great start in the High Peak league - can they keep it up?
